about us

Established in 1891 the Royal Hobart Bowling Club is one of the oldest bowling clubs in Tasmania and is located within Battery Point, one of the oldest suburbs in Hobart. The prefix “Royal” was granted by His Majesty King George V and is one of only two bowling clubs in the world entitled to use the prefix, the other being Royal Windsor, making the club of historical significance to the local community.

Incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act (Tas) with the object not only of encouraging and promoting bowls in the community but also to afford its members every facility for enjoying the recreation, fellowship and society associated with the game. Membership is gender neutral and includes men and women of all ages and welcomes new members of all ages.

Within a quiet location, the club is a short picturesque stroll from the Hobart City Centre and adjacent to the historic Angelsea Barracks, as well as the world renowned Salamanca and waterfront areas.

Having Mt Wellington as a backdrop there are views to the city, waterfront, River Derwent and surrounding suburbs which makes for a most enjoyable game of bowls.

Located within the club  is memorabilia relating to the history of the club as well as bowling equipment from the good ole days before technology took over! A great selection of bowls is available to all novice or social bowlers with coaches ready to lend a hand.

The playing area consists of  2 synthetic greens which allows for 8 rinks of bowling accommodating up to 64 players. These Synthetic greens allow for year round Corporate, Social and Barefoot Bowls events and competitions on various days. Currently the club has 2 divisions in both the Midweek Pennant and Saturday Pennant competitions of Bowls Tasmania South.

The club has a bbq area, kitchen, dining room and bar facility and is fully licensed under the Liquor Act which makes the facility suitable for most Community Activities.

The club welcomes visitors, friends and new members at any time.
